New electricity connection rules proposed for data centres in Ireland

The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) has published a proposed update to the electricity grid connection policy for data centres in Ireland. The proposal provides a clearer framework for integrating new data centres into the electricity system in Ireland while balancing grid capacity. Electricity demand from data centres has grown significantly, rising from 5% of total national demand in 2015 to 21% in 2023.
