PM welcomes PATRIZIA’s pledge for £1bn to develop UK homes

Approach will connect regional housing opportunities with long-term capital

14 October 2026

Global investment manager, PATRIZIA says it will draw on its established institutional client relationships to raise and deploy £1bn for essential housing across the country,

PATRIZIA confirmed the move during a meeting with UK  Prime Minister Andy Burnham in Berlin at the first UK-Germany Regional Growth Forum on 8 October. According to the government, the commitment adds to around £4bn the company has already invested in the UK, and the deal will deliver 4,000 "professionally managed homes across the UK's regions and nations".

The approach is designed to connect housing opportunities identified by mayoral authorities with long-term capital, potentially including UK pension investment. Mayors can shape local housing priorities and deploy funding, while Local Government Pension Scheme funds and their investment pools can consider suitable projects as part of their investment strategies. Any pension investment would be subject to their own assessment and decisions.

Asoka Wöhrmann, chief executive of PATRIZIA, said: “Our meeting with the Prime Minister reinforced a clear reality: the UK’s demand for affordable housing is also a significant investment opportunity. PATRIZIA is already investing in homes across the country, and we see considerable potential to do more.”

The company intends to use regional partnerships to connect its investment with local housing needs. Working with metro mayors and other local partners would provide a route for directing capital across the UK’s regions and nations, rather than concentrating the programme in a single market.

“By working with metro mayors and local partners, we can help channel long-term institutional capital into the places where housing is needed most,” Wöhrmann said. “Neither public nor private capital can solve this challenge alone, but together we can accelerate delivery and create lasting value for communities across the UK.”

The announcement presents the platform as a means of combining institutional investment with local involvement in housing delivery. However, it does not set out whether public partners would contribute land, funding or other support, or how individual development partnerships would be structured.

The Berlin forum brought together British and German business leaders to discuss regional investment and growth. The two governments also agreed to develop a further Regional Dialogue, involving local areas and regions, with the aim of holding it in 2027.
