BSI launches Built Environment Competence Hub

BSI has launched the Built Environment Competence Hub, a national digital platform designed to centralise guidance, frameworks and best practice relating to competence across the built environment sector.

The Hub brings together standards, regulatory information and professional guidance in a single, accessible location. Developed in collaboration with the Industry Competence Steering Group (ICSG) and the Building Safety Regulator (BSR), the initiative aims to address long-standing concerns over the fragmented and inconsistent nature of competence information within the industry.

The new platform responds to growing regulatory pressures and professional expectations following the introduction of the Building Safety Act 2022, which placed increased emphasis on competence across roles and project stages.

BSI said the Hub is intended to support professionals and organisations in navigating complex regulatory requirements by offering authoritative, consistent and practical resources. It is open to all stakeholders in the sector, and users are encouraged to register to access materials and contribute to ongoing content development.

Anthony Burd, director of built environment at BSI Knowledge Solutions, said: “Competence is fundamental to a built environment sector that is safe, trusted and capable of meeting society’s needs. The Built Environment Competence Hub has been designed as a living resource, shaped by ongoing industry input and able to evolve as competence requirements, standards and best practice continue to develop.”

The Hub is intended to serve as both a reference and engagement platform, helping to create a more joined-up approach to competence across design, construction and asset management. It will also play a role in supporting implementation of the regulatory reforms introduced under the new building safety regime.
