Architect dRMM to lead Woolwich town centre regeneration framework

New urban blueprint to align growth, public realm and investment over the next decade.

Architect dRMM to lead Woolwich town centre regeneration framework

Architect dRMM has been appointed by the Royal Borough of Greenwich to lead the preparation of a new Urban Regeneration Framework for Woolwich town centre.

The practice will head a multi-disciplinary team including Masterplanning + More, Graham Haworth Studio, Augarde and Partners, Urban Flow, CBRE, Vogt and Something Collective to develop a long-term vision for the town centre and surrounding neighbourhoods.

The appointment follows significant changes to Woolwich’s connectivity, with the arrival of the Elizabeth line dramatically reducing journey times to Canary Wharf, the City and the West End. The improved accessibility is seen as reinforcing Woolwich’s strategic role within London’s growth plans.

The new framework will provide a coordinated blueprint to guide development, public realm improvements and investment decisions. It is intended to bring together the council’s ambitions for commercial growth, housing delivery and public realm enhancement into a single, deliverable place strategy.

The Royal Borough has identified a number of priorities for the town centre, including strengthening its role as a commercial hub, supporting a more vibrant high street and evening economy, delivering affordable and flexible workspace, and providing new homes. Improvements to health and community infrastructure, alongside greener, safer and better-connected streets, also form part of the brief.

dRMM’s approach will focus on integrating these objectives into a coherent vision that supports inclusive growth and climate resilience while improving quality of life for residents and businesses.

The framework is expected to be published towards the end of the year and will set the direction for regeneration and investment in Woolwich over the next decade.
