Landmark Properties partners on Durham mixed-use scheme with PBSA

Landmark Properties has exchanged contracts with Citrus Group and Galliard Homes to deliver a mixed-use redevelopment of Prince Bishops Place in Durham city centre.

The proposed scheme will include 504 purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) beds alongside retail, leisure and public realm improvements, forming part of a wider repositioning of the existing shopping centre.

A revised planning application has been submitted to update earlier approved proposals, increasing the number of student beds and refining the design to align with Landmark’s operational model. The development will also introduce new pedestrian routes through the site and improved connections to the River Wear.

The project is intended to create a multi-functional destination combining student living with commercial uses, while retaining key elements of the existing site, including the multi-storey car park.

For Landmark Properties, the deal marks a further step in its expansion into the UK market. The company entered the market in 2024 and has since secured sites in London and Birmingham, with Durham representing its third UK development and a continued focus on cities where student demand outpaces supply.

The scheme is also expected to contribute to the wider regeneration of Durham city centre, introducing new retail and leisure offer alongside modern student accommodation and enhanced public spaces.

Subject to planning and regulatory approvals, Landmark will lead delivery of the development in partnership with Citrus Group and Galliard Homes, as it continues to scale its UK pipeline.
