Nottingham Forest has submitted proposals to redevelop the City Ground, increasing the stadium’s capacity from 31,150 to 52,000 and modernising facilities to improve fan experience and commercial performance.
The redevelopment, designed by KSS Architects, would represent the most significant transformation of the stadium in over three decades. Plans include a unified architectural design that encloses the lower bowl to enhance the matchday atmosphere, alongside improved accessibility, hospitality and operational efficiency.
With a current capacity among the lowest in the Premier League, the club says the upgrade is vital to remain financially competitive under league financial sustainability rules. The improved infrastructure is intended to boost matchday revenue and allow parts of the stadium to operate as a destination beyond matchdays.
The City Ground has been Nottingham Forest’s home since 1898 and is seen as integral to the club’s identity. The proposals aim to strike a balance between heritage and modernisation, positioning the venue to host top-tier domestic and international fixtures while contributing more broadly to Nottingham’s cultural and community life.
The plans also highlight a commitment to sustainability, with the club aiming to ensure the redeveloped ground contributes positively to the environment and the long-term future of the club.
