Westcombe secures consent for Hampton Wick hotel and homes
Former student accommodation will become Hotel Indigo and 22 apartments
28 October 2026

Westcombe Group has secured planning approval to redevelop Kingston Bridge House in Hampton Wick as a Hotel Indigo and 22 homes, including four affordable properties. The scheme will convert the former student accommodation building on Church Grove into a mixed-use development involving an estimated £20m of construction investment.
The hotel will form part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Hotel Indigo brand and Westcombe’s Acre Hotels collection. Westcombe describes the proposed property as a five-star boutique hotel, with a bar, restaurant and conference facilities.
The residential element will comprise one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. The announcement does not specify the tenure of the four affordable homes or provide a construction timetable.
An independent economic impact assessment cited by Westcombe estimates that the completed development will support around 50 on-site jobs and attract approximately 9,000 hotel visitors annually. It projects around £4.3m of additional annual retail and leisure spending in the local economy.
The assessment also estimates that the scheme will generate approximately £195,000 a year in Council Tax and business rates.
Kamal Pankhania, chief executive of Westcombe Group, said: “We are transforming a formerly vacant building into new homes, affordable housing and a five-star luxury hotel that will bring jobs, prosperity and thousands of visitors into the local area each year.”
The approval accompanies Westcombe’s expansion into hospitality through Acre Hotels. The group said the Hampton Wick project marks the beginning of a relationship with IHG that it intends to develop in the UK and overseas.
Willemijn Geels, vice president for development in Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “We are delighted to welcome Westcombe Group to IHG and bring Hotel Indigo to the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in the UK. Hampton Wick’s rich history, riverside setting and strong local identity make it a natural fit for a brand that celebrates neighbourhood stories and authentic local experiences.”
IHG said the signing follows the opening of its 200th Hotel Indigo property worldwide.
