McLaren Construction to deliver first 70MW phase of Ada Docklands data centre
Shell and core contract covers initial building and campus-wide infrastructure.

McLaren Construction has been appointed to deliver the first 70MW data centre building at Ada Infrastructure’s flagship Docklands campus in London, marking the developer’s first project in Europe.
The shell and core contract covers one of three planned 70MW facilities within the 210MW campus at the Royal Docks, alongside enabling infrastructure for the entire site. The scope also includes provision for a future district heating network interface.
The development will form a strategic hub for AI, cloud and hyperscale operations, designed to accommodate the intensive power and cooling requirements of AGPU-based applications. The campus is targeting BREEAM Excellent certification and incorporates low-carbon materials and energy solutions including air and liquid cooling systems that operate without water evaporation.
In addition to the data centre buildings, the scheme includes a multi-purpose community facility and enhanced public realm, with improved pedestrian and cycle routes along the River Thames. Works also involve significant upgrades to the Thames river wall, including construction of a new flood defence barrier.
McLaren’s role encompasses coordination of civil, structural, architectural and MEP packages, as well as wider infrastructure delivery within the constrained Docklands environment. Confirmed supply chain partners include Keltbray for CFA piling, Menard for BMC piling, Gallagher for groundworks and civils, and William Hare for the steel frame.
Head of Ada Infrastructure EMEA, James Moloney, said McLaren’s experience in delivering complex data centre and infrastructure projects would be instrumental in transforming the long-vacant site into a sustainable campus that supports wider regeneration in the Royal Docks.
Gareth Peebles, divisional director at McLaren Construction, highlighted the multidisciplinary expertise required for a project of this scale, including a strong focus on health and safety.
McLaren has delivered more than £1bn of data centre projects across the UK and Middle East, spanning hyperscale, co-location and bespoke facilities. The Docklands shell and core contract is due for completion in mid-2028, with the first building expected to be operational by the end of 2028.
