Chaterhouse Street office remodelling

Camden Council approves plans for refurb and extension of Hatton Garden site.

13 August 2025

Camden Council has granted conditional planning permission for the remodelling, refurbishment and extension of 19 Charterhouse Street in London’s Hatton Garden area, known for its jewellery trade.

Developer Morgan Real Estate aims to retrofit, develop and extend the building, originally developed in the 1990s. The building’s historic use as a diamond centre required high levels of security, leading to what the developers describe as “an austere and fortress like appearance”.

The existing building also has a low-quality façade resulting in poor thermal performance , resulting in a higher operational carbon footprint.

The proposal seeks to improve the building’s operational efficiency introducing a new façade with improved thermal performance. The updated building will provide approximately 90,000 sq ft of desirable high-quality workspace.

In a nod to its past, the upgrade includes provision of ‘thoughtfully designed affordable jewellery workspace” supporting the area’s historic trade.  Accessible, planted rooftop terraces will add to local biodiversity and green spaces.
