elementalLONDON: Key debates on heat, housing and decarbonisation

A lively range of event topics reflects key areas of challenge and opportunity for the construction and property sectors.

1 October 2025

The event timetable for elementalLONDON (19–20 November) has been published, bringing together more than 90 sessions, across five live content theatres, on the future of buildings, energy and infrastructure.

With the government under pressure to deliver on net zero, housing standards, and resilience, the event will act as a barometer for where policy meets practice. The SectorScope is delighted to be partnering with the event, as these topics reflect coming challenges and opportunities for the construction and property sectors.

Here are ten sessions that will set the tone for debate across the sector:

1. Timandra Harkness Keynote: AI in Context

AI is set to disrupt design, planning and operations. Harkness will cut through the hype to explore its real-world impact.

2. Decarbonising London

London’s heritage buildings and complex infrastructure highlight the challenges — and opportunities — of city-scale decarbonisation.

3. Healthy Homes and Buildings

From damp and mould in housing to outdated commercial standards, this debate asks whether regulation is keeping pace.

4. The Future is Electric

Phil Steele of Octopus Energy examines the practicalities of a fully electrified UK energy system.

5. Heat Networks Debate

With expansion expected, experts assess whether heat networks can deliver at scale and speed.

6. Michael Pawlyn Keynote: Regenerative Design

A leading voice on biomimicry argues for design that actively restores ecosystems, not just reduces harm.

7. Women in Buildings

The Construction Inclusion Council sets out why workforce diversity and cultural change are critical for industry transformation.

8. RIBA Architects: Designing for Net Zero

Architects consider how building design must evolve to drive energy efficiency and decarbonisation.

9. Climate Resilience in the Built Environment

CIBSE experts outline strategies to protect buildings from overheating and climate impacts already being felt.

10. From Policy to Practice: Home Improvement

With the Warm Homes Plan expected this month, the session will test whether new policy can deliver on retrofit.

With five theatres of content across two days, elementalLONDON offers policymakers, practitioners and industry leaders a platform to address the most pressing challenges in the built environment.elementalLONDON is free to attend, register here for your two day pass.
