Four Great Jackson Street towers will deliver 1,746 homes

Renaker has cleared a major planning hurdle for the next phase of its Great Jackson Street development in Manchester, with four residential towers comprising 1,746 homes approved following agreement of a Section 106 deal.
Manchester City Council approved the scheme on 10 September, allowing the phased development of two 47-storey and two 51-storey buildings.
The project forms part of Renaker's continuing development of the Great Jackson Street area, where a cluster of high-rise residential schemes is reshaping the southern edge of Manchester city centre. The four towers will contain 1,746 homes alongside flexible commercial, leisure, food and drink space at lower levels.
Plans also include basement car parking, cycle storage, landscaping and public realm improvements, together with servicing, access and associated highways works.
The latest decision follows the council's earlier backing for the proposals and the subsequent negotiation of the Section 106 agreement.
According to reports, the agreement provides for a staged affordable housing contribution linked to the performance of the development, with potential contributions from the four towers worth up to £81m.
The buildings are planned as two pairs on opposite sides of Great Jackson Street and will occupy a key location within the wider high-rise development cluster. Renaker has already delivered the four-tower Deansgate Square development in the area, while further residential towers have followed at Crown Street.
The latest buildings would help fill the remaining area between those developments, creating a more continuous cluster of high-rise residential buildings around Great Jackson Street.
Construction of the four towers has been reported to represent an investment of more than £570m, although a timetable for demolition and construction has yet to be confirmed.
The four-tower approval is particularly significant because the scheme has been awaiting completion of its planning obligations since councillors originally backed the proposals more than two years ago. With the Section 106 arrangements now agreed and the latest approval recorded by Manchester City Council, another major phase of Renaker's Great Jackson Street development can move closer to construction.
