Tower Hamlets approves mixed-use Mastmaker Village on Isle of Dogs
Brownfield regeneration scheme to deliver shared living, affordable housing and facilities.
11 March 2026

Tower Hamlets Council has granted unanimous planning approval for Mastmaker Village, a major mixed-use redevelopment that will transform a brownfield site on the Isle of Dogs into a new residential neighbourhood.
The approved scheme will deliver a combination of shared living accommodation, affordable housing and community facilities alongside new public spaces designed to integrate the development with the surrounding area.
At the heart of the plans is a shared living building providing 843 units, supported by ground floor amenities including a public café and coworking space. A second residential building will deliver 153 affordable homes, including 121 social rent properties and 32 intermediate units aimed at families.
The development will also incorporate a community hub at ground level and create a series of publicly accessible outdoor spaces, including landscaped public realm and a new pocket park.
Outline planning approval has also been granted for a third building on the site, which will provide a replacement education facility previously located there.
The architecture has been designed to reflect the industrial heritage of the Isle of Dogs, with façades referencing the area’s historic role in grain storage and transport while adopting a contemporary design language.
The scheme forms part of the continuing redevelopment of brownfield land across the Isle of Dogs, as new residential-led projects seek to address housing demand while introducing community facilities and public space.
