Essar Energy Transition finalises purchase of Thornton Science Park

Essar Energy Transition (EET) has completed the acquisition of Thornton Science Park close to Ellesmere Port. The Park comprises 66 acres with facilities including modern laboratories, office space and industrial facilities.

EET says the purchase is in line with its commitment to place the North West “at the forefront of the UK’s low carbom future, accelerating the country’s energy transition.”

Deepak Maheshwari, CEO, EET Fuels, said:  “The acquisition of Thornton Science Park marks another huge step in our ambitious plans to develop Europe’s foremost integrated energy transition hub.  With our strong links with local stakeholders, we plan to attract the businesses and innovators who are leading the UK’s decarbonisation strategy.”

As part of EET’s plans to create one of Europe’s leading energy transition hubs, Thornton Science Park will become home to the next generation of innovators, engineers and scientists.

It will look to lead the way in new technologies, including hydrogen production, as EET Hydrogen gears up to develop the first large scale, low carbon hydrogen production plant (HPP1) in the UK and industrial carbon capture.

Thornton Science Park remains a key asset to the Cheshire Science Corridor, linking Liverpool and Manchester.  EET’s vision is for Thornton Science Park to continue to serve as a significant energy transition, innovations and skills hub for the region as it becomes the UK headquarters for EET businesses including EET Fuels, EET Hydrogen, Stanlow Terminals, EET Hydrogen Power and EET Retail.

EET Fuels is already a Centre of Excellence for its high-quality training and development and EET will engage with key local and regional stakeholders with the aim of attracting the next generation of innovators to join businesses on the historic site.
