Liverpool City Council announces £3.4 million investment in Fabric District

Liverpool City Council has announced a £3.4 million Section 106 investment in a scheme in the city’s emerging Fabric District. It will kickstart the Monument Place regeneration project.  The investment figure may also be matched by funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority – a decision is due mid-July 2025.

The Fabric District area of Liverpool is in the Islington area of the city, between Lime Street and an area known as the Knowledge Quarter. The regeneration scheme is being co-designed with Fabric District CIC, an organisation of local businesses launched in 2017. It is chaired by Dr Michael Birkett, a member of the Board of The Regenda Group which is a leading regeneration organisation with headquarters in Liverpool.

Fabric CIC says its aim is to regenerate the district into a “place that has more to offer its residents both economically and culturally”. The organisation is working with the local community, the City Council, Mersey Forest, Liverpool World Heritage, Liverpool John Moorse University and the Knowledge Quarter.

The Council highlights key features of the scheme as a high quality public square with seating for public events as well as enhanced walking and cycling routes. Concept designs by Mott MacDonald and LDA Design are at RIBA Stage 2.
