Contract award marks major step forward for mixed-use destination.

VINCI Building has been appointed as main contractor for Eden Project Morecambe, marking a key milestone in the delivery of the large-scale regeneration scheme on the Lancashire coast.
The project, which recently secured planning permission, will transform a prominent seafront site into a mixed-use destination combining visitor attractions, public realm and community infrastructure. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with the first phase opening in 2027 and full completion targeted for 2028.
Procured via the North West Construction Hub’s High Value Framework, VINCI will lead the next stage of design development and construction, bringing experience in delivering complex, large-scale regeneration projects.
Eden Project Morecambe is being delivered in partnership with Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council and Lancaster University, with support from UK Government funding. The scheme is positioned as a catalyst for wider economic regeneration, aimed at driving investment, supporting local businesses and enhancing the area’s long-term appeal.
The development will include a series of major structures housing immersive visitor experiences, alongside extensive landscaped public spaces. A key early component will be the delivery of 1.5 acres of publicly accessible gardens, due to open in advance of the main scheme.
Beyond its cultural offer, the project incorporates a broader place-making strategy, with a focus on creating year-round activity, improving the public realm and strengthening connections along the waterfront.
The scheme is expected to generate significant economic impact, including job creation during both construction and operation, as well as supply chain opportunities for local businesses.
VINCI’s appointment reflects growing momentum behind the project, which is intended to reposition Morecambe as a regional destination while contributing to wider regeneration across Lancashire and Cumbria.
The development highlights the continued role of large-scale, mixed-use schemes in driving regeneration, particularly in coastal and regional locations seeking to attract investment and diversify their economic base.
