Studio Egret West leads Battersea Power Station final masterplan

Battersea Power Station has appointed Studio Egret West as master planner, urban designer and landscape architect for the remaining phases of its riverside regeneration project.

The appointment marks a key step in progressing the final c.50% of the scheme, covering 16 acres with outline planning permission for 3.2 million sq ft of new homes, commercial, cultural and leisure space.

Studio Egret West will oversee the evolution of the masterplan to ensure it reflects changes in societal behaviour and technology since the project first began. The updated plans are intended to enhance the neighbourhood’s mixed-use offering while contributing to the Mayor of London’s Growth Plan.

The move represents another milestone in one of London’s most high-profile regeneration schemes. Since work began following nearly three decades of dereliction, Battersea Power Station has delivered more than 2,200 homes, approximately 800,000 sq ft of office space, a new Zone 1 London Underground station and over 150 retail, dining and leisure venues.

The neighbourhood has also established itself as a major cultural destination, hosting events including London Fashion Week, Olympic fan zones and large-scale façade projections, alongside seasonal festivals.

The remaining phases will further integrate the development with Nine Elms Park, a 14-acre green corridor running from Vauxhall through Nine Elms and culminating at the six-acre riverfront Power Station Park.

Chairman of Battersea Project Holding Company Tan Sri Shahril Ridzuan said the appointment comes at a critical moment, noting that cities have changed significantly since the original plans were drawn up in 2012. He said the next stage would involve refining the masterplan to better reflect how people now live, work and spend their leisure time.

Sam Cotton, interim CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said the appointment represents an exploratory step in shaping how the neighbourhood will evolve over the next decade and beyond.

Studio Egret West founding director David West described the opportunity as a chance to build on the site’s legacy and extend its cultural, commercial and community significance at both local and citywide levels.

With outline consent already in place, the focus will now shift to re-envisioning the remaining phases of the scheme, as the project moves into its next stage of long-term delivery.
