£200m regeneration plans submitted for Huyton town centre

Proposals include housing, commercial units and a hotel

5 November 2025

A £200 million regeneration scheme for Huyton town centre has moved forward with the submission of a hybrid planning application by Genr8 Kajima Regeneration Ltd (GKRL), in partnership with Knowsley Council.

The application covers proposals for St Michael’s Place in the centre of Huyton, including new housing, commercial units, a 130-bed hotel, and major upgrades to public spaces. A new community hub is also planned for Derby Road, alongside the conversion of the Lathom Road multi-storey car park into a sustainable travel hub.

The scheme aims to transform Huyton Village, with the introduction of a central green space and wider public realm improvements designed to improve the town’s appeal and functionality. The developers said the project is intended to attract investment, generate employment, and support long-term social and economic growth.

Plans have been informed by a public consultation held in spring 2025. More than 5,000 people visited the consultation website and over 80 attended in-person events. Feedback received during the process led to design revisions, particularly around green space provision, independent retail, and housing mix.

Respondents highlighted the importance of affordable housing and suitable accommodation for older residents. There was also strong support for expanding green space and improving the town’s visual environment. Proposals to revitalise the high street, including more independent shops, cafes and restaurants, received positive responses.

The application is now under consideration by Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, with a decision expected in early 2026. If approved, the scheme will mark one of the largest single investments in the town centre in recent years.
